Welcome to Orbis Naturalis!

The name of my blog, Orbis Naturalis is the Latin for 'Natural World', so called because I will be examining the great outdoors!

I am creating this weekly journal to document my thoughts and experiences surrounding my study of Landscape Architecture at the University of Gloucestershire. I am based in Cheltenham where Pittville Park is my breathing space between lectures. Already after only a few weeks here, I am noticing the shift in seasons as the leaves begin to change hue; it's wonderful! I am fortunate to have a captivating view from my desk window looking out onto Cleeve Hill where the other day a translucent rainbow appeared behind the storm clouds. A childhood favourite collecting conkers and picking blackberries is a pastime to relish during these Autumn months.

Alongside my studies I aim to continue my passion for art with my online shop for bespoke hand-painted skateboards. Over quarantine I found cloud watching soothing on my daily walk, which I then translated onto my old skateboard. Combining these two interests just seemed to make sense!

"Once you have tasted the sky, you will forever look up"
 - Leonardo Da Vinci

Throughout the year, I aim to keep up a plant diary in order to improve my Latin terminology as well as identification through my own record of natural imagery using watercolours of which I will upload onto this blog as well to keep a digital record. In general, continuing to take note and observe my surroundings will not only aid my academic knowledge but also improve my drawing skill. Hopefully through these observations of the natural world around me, I will begin to understand more of how Landscape Design influences our society through the use of both hard and soft materials. Moreover, this blog will commemorate my university experience and keep track of  all the highs and lows!

Thanks for reading!
