North Place Site Analysis

 North Place Site Analysis

Drawing the base map:

I wanted a detailed base map that I could overlay the site analysis drawings. I made sure to include all of the built form to provide extensive context. The site boundary is outlined by a dashed red line and the roads are indicated in blue. I then used photoshop to block in the houses to create a Nolli map.

Site Visit Response: 18/2/22

Upon the site visit I focused on views in and out of the site, what needs to be buffered and blocked and what needs to be highlighted. From this more general site analysis I could delve into more detail the other aspects of the site including circulation and sunlight.

CIRCULATION

I wanted to mark all the routes used through the site including important nodes and intersections (see green), the blue marks the direction of car traffic with the light blue representing the bus lane. As you can see, there is a clear desire line diagonally through site which is currently been blocked/slowed via the uneven terrain and the parking barriers.

SUNLIGHT

Here I used Google Earth to mark the journey of the sun throughout the day and the shadows that would form off a simple cube building.

VIEWS

See annotations...
Some include residential views into the site along the north and south side. I want to retain the view of the church as well as the long view from the town centre as a wayfaring mark the Brewery Quarter is a good indicator for pedestrians to direct them towards the shops. I would like to create a green corridor that extends from Pittville park through the site to increase biodiversity.
