Who am I as a designer?
In preparation for upcoming job interviews, it is important for me to question who I am as a designer and what my approaches are. Overall, I would say I am a creative person who thinks conceptually before getting stuck in with the gritty details, a big idea strikes and then I flesh out what that means and hopefully translate that into a design. This example featured here, was from my second year but I think it is a good representation of my way of thinking; 'Butterfly Passage' took its form from butterfly wings and their movement in flight which I then took to plan a skatepark and graffiti wall using graphic symbols to show other aspects of the park. Quite a rudimentary sketch, this concept design masterplan needed further development to test its ability to be a fully-realised design, but I admire the energy and exuberance I had to embrace a theme. I hope to continue this energetic method of working with the background knowledge of planting and technical skills that I persevere to keep improving upon.
A design approach I take with almost all of the projects, is biophilia, with our innate connection to nature, I too, am inspired by natural form and like to demonstrate nature's beauty within all my designs.
