Composition Task

Image
Composition Task How to make a dynamic composition whilst retaining clarity? My submission utilises hexagon-shaped frames for the images to create a more interesting composition that plays with the rule of thirds. I thought all the images where quite geometric so I was inspired by the architectural lines to create the hexagon form.  CHOSEN FONT FAMILY: Bahnschrift = formal serif font with a utilitarian impression The title has a significantly larger sized font and is in bold whereas the body text, although in the same font, is much smaller and condensed. The coloured bar was from the red lights in the first image and the triangle indicates an arrow to link the text to the images. The page number replicates the title in the opposite corner whilst retaining enough border space from the edge of the page so the margins print clearly.  The balance between positive and negative space remains but the misaligned centre mark of the page creates a more dynamic layout.

Who am I as a designer?

Who am I as a designer? In preparation for upcoming job interviews, it is important for me to question who I am as a designer and what my approaches are. Overall, I would say I am a creative person who thinks conceptually before getting stuck in with the gritty details, a big idea strikes and then I flesh out what that means and hopefully translate that into a design. This example featured here, was from my second year but I think it is a good representation of my way of thinking; 'Butterfly Passage' took its form from butterfly wings and their movement in flight which I then took to plan a skatepark and graffiti wall using graphic symbols to show other aspects of the park. Quite a rudimentary sketch, this concept design masterplan needed further development to test its ability to be a fully-realised design, but I admire the energy and exuberance I had to embrace a theme. I hope to continue this energetic method of working with the background knowledge of planting and technical...

Urban Rewilding Design Charrette MAR 1-3

Urban Rewilding Design Charrette MAR 1-3 What is a 'design charrette'? A 'charrette', sometimes called a design charrette, is an intense period of design or planning activity and could be compared to a workshop or group collaboration.  I completed my first design charrette last week on the topic of urban rewilding, working with other students and lecturers from all year groups across three intense days in the studio! Here are some of my thoughts and take-aways from the session in self-reflection of what it was like... DAY 1 - intro + launch of project + 2 international talks   DAY 2 - design development + talks DAY 3 - presentation of design project + review Here are a few notes I took in my sketchbook on the various talks which were all very informative and aided the design process immensely. I particularly liked how short and concise they were so all the necessary information could be gleaned quickly and be applied within our group discussions. I'd say the biggest...
